Assistant/Associate Professor Broadcast Journalism/Journalism

Summary of Duties

The Marywood University Communication Arts Department seeks an Assistant/Associate Professor of Broadcast Journalism/Journalism for a full time, tenure track position beginning, August 2010.

The Communication Arts Department offers bachelors and masters degrees in Digital Media/Broadcast, Advertising/Public Relations, and programs in Journalism. The department includes an award winning radio station, high definition television station, and computer based editing suites. The department is active in the University community and works closely with schools, professional organizations, media venues and individual artists in the surrounding community.

Requirements

  • Educational:

    The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate or equivalent terminal degree. Demonstrated excellence and experience in broadcast journalism/journalism required. Candidate should also be qualified to teach across the department curriculum. The candidate should have recent professional journalism experience with a broad background in news writing, editing and reporting. Creative writing experience is helpful.

    Responsibilities include the opportunity to teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses in news writings, news editing, graphics, journalism ethics, journalism research methods, editorial writing, broadcast journalism, integrated media technologies, media and society, media/news literacy, political communication, as well as courses and initiatives in the candidate's area of expertise. The candidate will spark the development of the Journalism Program and also be expected to participate in departmental and university service activities, student advisement, and will maintain an active scholarly research agenda.
